Case: Edamalakkudi Village |
|
| Amrita TV's public service campaign You Too Can Make a Difference reported the tragic plight of a tribal colony at Edamalakkudi, in the Idukki District of Kerala. The remote tribal village is situated 12 kilometers inside a forest area. It is 40 kms from the nearest city- Munnar- the only source of provisions, health care and primary education.. Nearly 4500 villagers walk a minimum of 22 kms to reach the city. The only health care facility in the village is opened only once every two months;with virtually no medicinal supplies and a very small staff. A serious illness for these poor people leaves them little option except death itself. |
