The Taste series, Taste of Kerala & Taste of Dubai had been cooking up a storm on the culinary front by presenting a lip-smacking range of tastes that tickled the palette. The off-beat cookery show, that goes in search of rare and little known recipes and serves them piping hot from the hearth, is getting its spices and pastes ready for another scrumptious spread.
This time the Taste caravan wends its way eastward, on a gastronomical exploration of the exotic flavours of Arabia.
Taste of Arabia follows the enticing aromas of heavenly dishes into bachelor digs, newly wed apartments and well heeled villas of Malayalee expatriates, all along the Arabian Peninsula from Dubai to Kuwait and Bahrain.
The Keralite emigrees fall into either of these two categories - the conservative lot who stick loyally to time tested home cuisine or the adventurous section who are willing to try out the native flavours of their adopted land. Taste of Arabia tucks into the larders of both. It introduces authentic Arabesque delicacies such as Lebanese Fattoush, a simple salad made with fresh vegetables and toasted pita bread; Majboos, a dish consisting of long grained rice and meat; Falafel, a ball prepared from ground chick peas and topped with salads and pickled vegetables ; Hamus, a dip made from mashed chickpeas and blended with olive oil, lemon juice etc. as well as traditional desi savouries like Neipathal, Thikkidi, Kozhi Kili Koodu, Jnandu Piralan, Grilled Chicken, Fish covered and baked in coconut chutney etc.
The icing on the cake of each episode is a 3 minute special section Healthy Food Tips & Tricks hosted by a famous German Chef with 45 years of cooking experience behind him who gives priceless hints on dishing up home made mayonnaise, chilly sauce, tomato sauce, salad, dressing etc.
The delectable dishes that tempt the taste buds to distraction and simply melt in the mouth are a mixture of simple tidbits that are as easy to make as apple pie and complicated, elaborate preparations requiring a long list of ingredients. Hot, tangy, spicy, sweet or exquisite, these concoctions whip up one’s appetite as the dishes brown, roast, simmer, stew, grill or brew to yummy perfection on screen.
From epicureans who are nuts about food to enthusiasts who love to sink their teeth into a good spread and refined palettes that savour subtle flavours, Taste of Arabia is everyone’s cup of tea. |
