V.Dakshinamoorthy was born to sri.Venkateshwara Iyer & Smt.Parvathi at Alleppy, well known for his devotion to lord shiva at Vaikom . He attributes his achievements to Vaikkathappan.  He is now at Palakkad in kerala.

He has directed music for over 125 malayalam films and has won many awards, titles & fellowship. V.Dakshinamoorthy has created record of directing music for 3 generation viz; Augustine Joseph, (father of K.J.Yesudas), K.J.Yesudas and Vijay (son of yesudas).

      V. Dakshinamoorthy (in Malayalam) is one of the highly respected music directors in Malayalam movies in the 60s and 70s. Supposedly, Ilaiyaraja had his carnatic music initiation under this famous music director. Dakshinamoorthy is a stalwart in carnatic melodies, has a similar style as MSV. One of V Dakshinamoorthy's notable malayalam movies is Villaykku Vangiya Veena.

It was with Sreekumaran Thampi that Dakshinamoorthy worked with in the highest number of films. They formed one of the most fruitful combinations in Malayalam film music, like Vayalar-Devarajan and P. Bhaskaran-Baburaj.

He took a two-decade break after composing ‘Vathil pazhuthilooden…’ (‘Idanazhiyil Oru Kalocha’). Recently he recorded three songs for a film titled ‘Mizhikal Sakshi.’

In Dakshinamoorthy’s compositions, Kharaharapriya would seem a favourite raga.

Some of Dakshinamoorthy’s unforgettable melodies:

‘Ponveyil manikacha…’ (‘Nrithashala’)

‘Swapnangal…’ (‘Kavyamela’)

‘Hrudaya sarassile…’ (‘Padunna Puzha’)

‘Uthara swayamvaram…’ (‘Danger Buscuit’)

‘Kattile pazhmulam…’ (‘Vilakku Vangiya Veena’)

‘Shranthamambaram…’ (‘Abhayam’)

‘En mandahasam…’ (‘Udayam’)

This living legend in Malayalam film music says he never wanted to impose music on the lyrics. “What I did was just apply music lightly on the lines.

sreeram

A Calicut University Kalaprathibha, Sreeram has always been immersed in music. He played the flute and mridangam for concerts and other music programmes, did the ‘nattuvangam’ and vocals for Bharatanatyam, was a guest artiste at Kalamandalam, and composed ‘adavus’ and ‘jathis’ for dance.

Sreeram’s debut song ‘Tirupaachi arivaala…’ went on to become a huge hit. . Sreeram’s song ‘Vettrikodi kattu…’ for the Rajnikant film ‘Padayappa’ turned into a smashing hit.  Sreeram has so far sung around 80 Tamil songs that include peppy numbers such as ‘Tirunelveli halwa…’ (‘Samy’), an innovative fusion number that had just two words ‘Love Check’ along with Sivamani’s drums from the film ‘Paathale Paravasam,’ some fast numbers like ‘Kannamoochi attam…’ from ‘Kannamoochi Yenada,’ and interesting duets like ‘Mundasu sooriyane…’ (‘Sandaikozhi’), ‘Urranthotathula…’ (‘Veyil’) and Ulagame nee…’ (‘Ivan’).

In Malayalam, Sreeram has composed the music for ‘Mazhamega Pravukal’ and ‘Melvilasam Shariyanu.r. Some of the songs Sreeram rendered in Malayalam like ‘Kadamizhiyil kamaladalam…’ (‘Tenkasipattanam’), ‘Pottukuthedy….’ (‘Ravana Prabhu’), and ‘Indumathi…’ (‘Rakshasa Rajavu’) are testimony to his talent.

Sreeram is a regular member of fusion bands like Heart Beat and Silk Route, still plays for film recordings, does ad jingles and even finds time for the odd classical concert. His wife, Baby has composed over 200 ghazals, some of which have been sung by Hariharan, 50 swarajathis, javalis, varnams and thillanas. Their eight-year-old son Bharat Narayanan has already recorded the Navagraha krithis for which T. K. Murthy has accompanied him on the mridangam.
