Amrita TV’s Raga Ratnam Yuva Reaches its Grand Finale
Raga Ratnam Yuva, Amrita TV’s classical music reality show drew to a melodious conclusion during its Grand Finale, that was held on the 5th of October, 2009.
The aspirants who included students drawn from disciplines as varied as microbiology & English literature were musical bluebloods whose singing credentials had already been established - through hat-trick wins in the State Yuvajanothsavam; in Kathakali Music State level ; first prize in State level classical music etc.
The levels of the competition featured rare and uncommon rounds such as Navagraha Keerthanangal, Navarathri krithikal, Swathi Thirunal compositions etc.
This dynamic combination of accomplished aspirants & vigorous rounds ensured that there were fiercely fought contests at every turn of the show.
Five competitors from the original 16, who have remained unscathed by eliminations, went on to the final round that was held on the morning of October 5th , the day of the Grand Finale- Bhuvana , Karthik.G, Nadini , Sreenath & Venkata Nagarajan .
The Final Five or Pancharatnas proved their classical prowess once more in the Panchalinka Sthalakeerthanangal round that eliminated 2 contestants-Sreenath & Karthik . The other 3 gained entry into the Finale.
Nandini Is Adorned with The Prestigious Pattam
The Grand Finale was presided over by S.Soumya & K.L.Sreeram who had officiated as jury members throughout the competition and Perumbavoor. G. Raveendranath who joined the panel for the Finale.
The 3 finalists Bhuvana, Nandini & Venkata Nagarajan clashed again in the Grand Finale the same evening in a final harmonious tussle for musical supremacy .
The finals was confined to a single round : Ragam Thanam Pallavi .
The 3 contestants who were at their musical best, surpassed themselves, leaving no quarter to their adversaries .
But Nadini beat off the stiff challenge and showed herself as consummate mistress of Ragam Thanam & Pallavi to be adorned with the coveted title of the first Raga Ratnam Yuva .
She was awarded with the first prize money of Rs. 2 lakhs . Venkata Nagarajan came in at the second spot to win Rs.1 lakh and Bhuvana went home with the third prize & Rs.75,000 that went with it.
As the audience dispersed after an evening replete with melody, Raga Ratnam Yuva, the first Carnatic competition in the world to span so many weeks, had already made history.
