Jyothirmayi was the last celebrity judge to hop on board the car-shaped Judge’s rostrum of Super Dancr-2.
Jyothirmayi is an established name in the Malayalam film industry today, but she may qualify as the only mainstream actress whose career was set on course by an item number that became a life belt to stardom.
She began her professional life as a television presenter and soon her anchoring skills provided her with enough ballast to get a berth in acting.
She starred in a number of serials and telefilms and eventually wound up in Mollywood. However her performances in Pilot and Ishtam created hardly any ripples and she was in danger of sinking without a trace when the Fates threw her lifeline in the guise of a dance number ‘Chingamaasam’ in the blockbuster Meesa Madhavan .
The song and its picturisation became an instant hit and Jyothirmayi became a sought after actress as chances flooded her like a river in full spate.
She became the leading lady of the main heroes of Malayalam cinema in films like Pattalam, Kalyanaraman, Ente Veedu Appoonteyum etc with her portrayal in Bhavam bringing her the Kerala State Award for Best Second Actress in 2002 and the special Jury Award at the National Film Awards in 2003.
The also-ran thus suddenly surged to be front runner and a 4 minute dance sequence accomplished what full fledged roles failed to deliver.
Quick to learn from her Malayalam experience, she opened her innings in Tamil with an item number in Idhaya Thirudan . It proved to be a good luck charm, bringing in fine offers from big banners.
Joining in the 100th episode celebrations of Super Dancer-2 , she wished all the four finalists luck for the Grand Finale, in which she will also be performing.
