Lekshmi Graces Super Dancer Stage With Finesse & Charm
She was the cynosure of all eyes as she glided elegantly up the steps of the dais .
With the inherent grace that so often distinguishes a natural dancer, the poise that results from years of dancing practice and the chiseled figure of an classic dansuese, the Bangalorite reminded one of the beautiful temple sculptures adorning the ancient temples of Tanjore and Madurai.
Lekshmi Gopalaswamy was the first celebrity guest to share the podium with Kala Master and Prasanna Master, permanent jury members for Super Dancer-2.
An accomplished artiste in three separate fields, Lekshmi Gopalaswamy was ‘qualified’ enough to rub shoulders with the star choreographers on board, for she easily measure up to Kala Masters stature in Cinema.
Launched into films from Malayalam soil, she won the Kerala State Award for Best Supporting Actress for ‘Arayannagalude Veedu’ through which she made her entrée.
Co-starring with Mamooty on debut she was teamed with most of other icons in her later films- with Jayaram in ‘Kochu Kochu Santhoshangal’ and opposite Mohanlal in ‘Achaneyanenikkishtam’, ‘Keerthi Chakra’ and ‘Bhramaram’ .
She models a bit on the side, just for ‘the fun of it’ but refuses to endorse products that force her to step outside the moral and ethical boundaries she has drawn for herself.
However, dancing dominates the priority list of this multi-lingual actress who started giving stage performances from the tender age of 12 and was the 1st Kannadiga recipient of the Madras Music Academy’s MGR award for Best Young Dancer. Instead of dancing exactly by the book, she loves to indulge in on-the-spot improvisations in the middle of a performance on stage- an indication of the depth of her expertise and proficiency in her chosen art form.
The same carefree buoyant spirit was reflected in her remarks on the contestant performance – with excellent judgments, accurate assessments and clear-cut opinions, she gave praise where it was due but blunted the edge of criticism, so that her comments never stung the assessed.
Finally, when it was time to say farewell, the contestants, crew and audience wished with
one heart that the amber-eyed, exquisite danseuse didn’t have to bid adieu so soon. |
