Usha Uthup Peps Up the Proceedings

When the 3rd stage of Super Star-2 was to be inaugurated, none other than the Queen of Pop herself, Usha Uthup turned up to hum start the rounds on its way.

Attired in her characteristic kanjeepuram silk saree, long plaited hair adorned with flowers and big bindi dotting her forehead, Usha Didi arrived at the studios beaming with a smile that put the arc lights to shame.

The participants were bowled over by the larger-than-life legend who had sung in over 20 languages and had out performed 3 generation of singers.

With no trace of starry airs, Didi mixed easily with the contestants, putting the wide-eyed youngsters at ease with her effervescence that proved to be contagious.

The Iyengar lass who had lent legitimacy to night club singing way back in the conservative 70’s, had a number of valuable tips to offer the competitors: that while one had to go all out to master the intricacies of the song, it was equally important to develop a style of their own.

Then the First Lady of Style proceeded to sing a few rollicking numbers in her inimitable voice that millions of Indians would recognize anywhere ,anytime.

With her live-wire stage presence , incredible energy and husky voice she gave an electrifying performance that gave the aspiring Super stars an idea as to why she is still considered the Prima Donna of Indian Pop.
